Some days I feel older then dirt and then there are most days when I forget how many years have past since I was a "kid".... here are two examples that brought me to the truth of what people see...

Two weekends ago I was on a glorious weekend retreat with my quilt guild. One of my (new)friends asked me what I was working on... I said "Crib bumpers" before I could continue that they were for my friend Kelly's sister's new baby she said "oh for your grandchild!" ... I was shocked I said"my oldest is 12...so I am pretty sure I don't have any grandchildren coming anytime soon"...she said "well you could be a young grandmother!" I had to admit I could... I was 31 when my son was born and could now have, like other friends of mine, a child in their twenties.... So I guess the next experience shouldn't have taken me by such surprise but as I said I seem to not always see my self as the age I am or the age people see me...

At the grocery store today the teller was finishing up my grocery order and when he rung up my bottle of wine he asked for my ID... I provided it and the teller - a young man said "oh - your the same age as my mother"... I said oh and giggled... and looked at the young mother behind me... realizing my gray strike told my story, as her baby food in her cart told hers...I wanted to scream ..."MY OLDEST IS A TWELVE YEAR OLD"

Now possibly one thing that colors my view is that my mother was my age when I was born so I fell pretty darn young... so for people to be placing me in the category of a grandmother or a mother of an adult, simply blows my mind.

So I am old enough to have a grandchild but I don't have any and I am still young enough to have a baby but I won't be having one again but I do have 3 wonderful children who are 12 to 9 years old! and maybe one day .... a long time from now I will be a grandmother!

What do you get when when you mix a roll of paper towels and a puppy?

Getting ready for RETREAT - how sweet!

Our quilt guild's retreat is about a month away and I can't wait... we are all getting ready with special little favors for our friends and planning projects that we hope to complete in the 4 days of blissful sewing...and eating and chatting and shopping and just the general fact of having a change of scene.

I am now off to keep working on the suprise meal favors that my friends and I are going to place at each memebers seat at Saturdays dinner... they will be so cute... He is preteen and just beginning to find his place in our world. He had never gone skiing before (we are not skiers... farmers and quilters maybe). He went with friends from his boy scout troop. It seems that the boys didn't stay together and my son was left more then once on his own. Near the end of the day a family in the troop found him and brought him home. I am grateful. We spent the night repairing the damage to no a Val... he was beside himself. I told my son to just get a good night sleep and to take each thing as it comes . I just wanted to get him through the night and to get a good nights sleep. By this morning I was furious. My husband, who is more logical, was thinking of ways to talk to my son about the meeting that evening. In the end he relaxed during the night and during the school day and game a long way from the afternoon before. I am hopeful that much can be repaired tonight.

Meanwhile today I spend the day quilting and relieved a lot of stress by concentrating on a job of quilting a shop sample. But the whole process is good and freeing in many ways.

found

The fabric arrived ? So I thought I would try again.

Today I am a little crabby with my family ... they are creating a lot of mess and not helping clean up which is made worse by the fact that my friend who comes and helps clean and "get me organized" is just out of the hospital... bummer.

What I really want to do it play with fabric and art stuff. I am reading other friends blogs and all the neat artistic and productive things they are doing and I want to play too but with the crazy layers of clothes, school supplies, GS cookies and dog toys I am overwhelmed.

So I will stop blogging and go CLEAN so I can play and then report something fun.

The tech age

We are in the tech age... those other 40 somethings out there, who thought, we were in them in College, with our first computers...well now we have Blackberries and iPode-touches--- by the way, that do even more then we could believe a computer could do way back then.... and we (I mean me) are not high flying executives.... we are Moms who need to keep up to date and keep in touch with our friends, our groups, our high tech husbands and even higher tech kids.... You know your behind the times when Martha Stewart has a MY Space and you don't know what the heck she is talking about.... but I can make a biscotti that would make a nice Italian grandmother cry.... I will share later. Maybe I will get a handle on these gadgets that only those techno guys could dream up....

My son turned 12 today -omg - as they say.... we were just coming home from the hospital two days after he was born and I thought .... 'I don't know what the heck I am doing with a baby' 'Someone must know and they are going to stop us and take him ...' well of course they never did and we celebrated big with his first birthday..."Yippee - he is still alive -- we didn't kill him" sounds morbid but really if you ever brought home a new baby and had never been with a newborn, you know what I am talking about...big celebration ...so big we gave him a sister.... OK we started celebrating a few months earlier and he had a sister when he was 18months.... and then another when he was 3 and 1/2.... we knew we where out numbered and put on "brakes".... But we celebrate every milestone with the same thought --well, it has changes a little -- "OK we are all still here - know one has come and taken any of us way :-) "

But though the tech stuff has changed -- some things stay the same... My son is just like his dad - a smart nerd and happy to be....The girls are like me and sing and dance the whole day long and the dog still needs to be walked !!!!

Have a great day !

On a side note if you have not read or listened to the "last Lecture" by Randy Pauch -- check it out - He ended his brave fight to stay with us yesterday - he was a great lecture and a real human being - we are all better for hearing his simple message - "be a Tigger" - and much more. Thank you Randy for sharing with us!!!

Bee

Ok, I am blogging...
